What is not here
The IRS does not publish a lookup for businesses in general, and their EINs are confidential return information. A private company with no benefit plan, no tax exemption, and no SEC filing has no public record that carries its EIN, so it will not appear. Sole proprietors and one-participant retirement plans are excluded on purpose: those records are about a person. When a search finds nothing, the result says which sources were checked and what to do next.
